CANCELLATION POLICY:
Adapting to the changes in international travel after the COVID-19 pandemic, we are adjusting our cancellation policy accordingly as follows:
120 days before the trip starts – the return of your deposit minus any expenses that we may not be able to get reimbursed.
90 days before the trip starts – partial refund of the amount of the trip less the 400 Euros cancellation fee, plus any amount that we can’t recover from hotels and other costs that we may have already incurred in the trip preparation.
Less than 60 days before the trip starts, no amount will be refunded. We will, however, try to credit as much as possible towards a future trip. This depends on the amount that we can get back from the hotels and other costs that we have already incurred in the trip preparation.
We highly recommend contracting travel insurance as soon as you pay the deposit and buy your international flights.
Make sure your travel insurance covers:
- Refund of the amounts paid in case you need to cancel for any reason.
- Covers the cost of possible damages to your rental bike. Check our T&C for this.
For these reasons, we won’t be holding any spots until the full deposit has been paid.
Hotels are now more strict with how many rooms they are willing to have on hold for groups, so until deposit payments are made, we won’t be able to confirm your spot.
Itinerary
After meeting the SFIDA Cycling trip at Lyon Airport, we will travel to our hotel in Alpe d'Huez.
Upon arrival, we will check in and have lunch and a trip orientation meeting.
Once we have prepared our bikes, we will take our first ride on the trip.
Alpe d'Huez is one of the most famous climbs in cycling. Today, you will have the chance to add this prestigious climb to your list.
46km/1,300m
Climb: Alpe d'Huez
Hotel: Hotel Grandes Rousses
There's much more than just climbs in the Alpe d'Huez region.
Before we leave tomorrow and take on some of the most amazing mountain tops in the Alps, today we are doing a ride that involves amazing cliff roads and the ride up to Les Deux Alpes.
88km/2,680m.
Balcony roads: Route de la Roche, Route du Ponteil, Route de Villard-Notre-Dame.
Climb: Les Deux Alpes.
Hotel: Hotel Grandes Rousses
We are leaving the Alpe d'Huez and heading towards our next big climb: Col de la Croix de Fer.
This is one of the nicest climbs in the French Alps, long and with great views, the closer to the top you are.
After a long descent, we will reach Saint Jean de Maurienne, then we will ride and climb the Lacets de Montvernier, probably the nicest short climb you will ever ride.
The climb is only 4km long, and in the middle section of 2km, there are 17 switchbacks.
We will return to Saint Jean, where we will stay for a couple of nights.
93km/2,440m.
Climbs: Col de la Croix de Fer, Lacets de Montvernier.
Hotel: Hotel Saint Georges.
Today, we will be exploring different roads in the Col de la Madeleine area.
We will climb up via Montgellafrey, which is a little-used road that joins the main road after Saint Francois Longchamp.
Once we summit, we will descend via Saint Francois, until the junction with the Col de Chaussy.
The Col de Chaussy is a narrow road until the summit, then it is a great descent back to the Maurienne valley.
This is a great way to arrive back in Saint Jean de Maurienne.
77km/2,600m.
Climbs: Col de la Madeleine, Col de Chaussy.
Hotel: Hotel Saint Georges.
The Col du Galibier is the most mythical climb in the French Alps.
The TDF went through the summit for the first time in 1911, and since then, it has been revisited often by the professional peloton.
Today we will ride from St.Jean de Maurienne to St.Michel, where the Col de Telegraphe starts. After the summit, it is a short descent to Valloire.
Valloire is where the Col du Galibier starts. The combo Telegraphe-Galibier is 25km/2,100m. And it is one of the great climbs in France.
Once we reach the top of the Galibier, it is a long descent to Briançon. We are staying two nights in this historical town, full of interesting places to visit.
83km/2,325m.
Climbs: Cols de Telegraphe and du Galibier.
Hotel: Hotel Vauban.
We are doing a shorter ride today, this way we can visit some of the fortifications that surround Briancon.
Near this Alpine capital, there are a good number of climbs that are worth exploring.
Col du Granon was the end of the stage in the TDF in 2022, with an epic battle between Vingegaard and Pogacar.
Today we will climb up this high pass near Briancon. Afterwards, we will climb the shorter and narrower road up the Croix de Toulouse.
45km/1,740m.
Climbs: Col du Granon, Croix de Toulouse.
Hotel: Hotel Vauban.
We will leave Briancon and soon after start the climb up the Col d'Izoard. This is another epic climb of the TDF.
The top of the Izoard marks the start of the Maritime Alps, and we are leaving behind the more classic Alpine landscapes.
After a great descent, we will continue towards Guillestre, via an amazing road, which includes a gorge section.
After stopping in Guillestre, we will climb the Col de Vars.
Our final destination today is Jausiers.
93km/2,600m.
Climbs: Cols d'Izoard and Vars.
Hotel: Villa Morelia.
For our last ride, we have planned to climb up the highest col in Europe.
The Col de la Bonette is not only a high pass, it is also a stunning one, with incredibly high alpine landscapes.
Once we enjoy the moment at the top, we will descend to Saint Etienne de Tinee, have lunch and then ride as far as Pont de Clans.
Here we will stop our ride and transfer to Nice to celebrate our achievements.
92km/2,120m.
Climb: Col de la Bonette.
Hotel: Radisson Hotel Nice Airport.
After breakfast, we will take you to Nice Airport that which is only 10 minutes away.
If you have a later flight, we suggest that you stay longer at the hotel and take a taxi closer to departure time.
