DISCOVER HOW GREAT IS TO RIDE IN THE CANARY ISLANDS WITH SFIDA CYCLING
We are pleased to introduce our SFIDA trip to the Canary Islands.
This destination is truly unique. The Canary Islands, an archipelago located off the northern coast of Africa, belong to Spain and comprise seven stunning islands.
Though most of the islands offer incredible rides, our trip will focus on Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
In Gran Canaria, we will climb up to Pico de las Nieves, the highest point accessible by bike, standing at nearly 2,000 meters. Given that our hotel is close to sea level, this climb will be a breathtaking experience.
But Gran Canaria has many other climbs and scenic routes, with the Valle de las Lágrimas (“Valley of Tears”) being one of the best-known roads.
After spending four days in Gran Canaria, we will take a ferry to Tenerife, another popular cycling destination.
Tenerife’s most famous climb reaches the base of Mount Teide, which is over 2,000 meters high. This is the place where many professional cyclists train during winter.
However, there is much more to Tenerife than Mount Teide. During our three days on this island, we will take you to some awe-inspiring places on your bike.
March is an excellent time to visit the Canary Islands, as the weather is delightful! Join us on this amazing trip!

Adapting to the changes in international travel after the COVID-19 pandemic, we are adjusting our cancellation policy accordingly as follows:
120 days before the trip starts – the return of your deposit minus any expenses that we may not be able to reimburse.
90 days before the trip starts – partial refund of the amount of the trip less the 500 Euros cancellation fee, plus any amount that we can’t recover from Hotels, and other costs that we may have already incurred in the trip preparation.
No amount will be refunded less than 60 days before the trip starts. We will, however, try to credit as much as possible towards a future trip. This depends on the amount that we can get back from the hotels and other costs that we have already incurred in the trip preparation.
We highly recommend to contract travel insurance as soon you pay the deposit and buy your international flights.
Make sure your travel insurance covers:
- Refund the amounts paid if you need to cancel for any reason.
- Covers the cost of possible damages to your rental bike. Check our T&C for this.
For these reasons, we won’t be holding any spots until the full deposit has been paid.
Hotels are now more strict with how many rooms they are willing to have on hold for groups, so until deposit payments are made we won’t be able to confirm your spot.
Itinerary
After meeting the SFIDA Cycling team at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria airport, we will transfer to our hotel at Playa de Mogán.
We will check-in, have lunch, and prepare our bikes.
In the afternoon, we will go for a ride to test our legs and bikes.

Climbs: Undulating coastal road.
Hotel: Cordial Mogán Playa
Today, we will ride along one of the most spectacular roads in Gran Canaria.
We will head towards Degollada de la Aldea, continue to San Nicolás, and then on to the Parralillo reservoir.
This is where the Valle de las Lágrimas section starts. It is one of the most memorable climbs you can do — and a tough one too.
Lunch in Ayacata will taste great after all that effort.

Climbs: Degollada de la Aldea, Valle de las Lágrimas
Hotel: Cordial Mogán Playa
We will ride along the coast all the way to Santa Águeda, then take the road to Las Filipinas and continue to Cascada Bonita.
This is a very quiet part of Gran Canaria, especially along the narrow road leading to Paso de Tauro.
The last 20 kilometres are all downhill back to Mogán.

Big ride today! A long and scenic ride to Pico de las Nieves.
The first part will take us to Paso de Tauro. Then we will continue via the Carretera de las Presas.
We will enjoy a refreshing stop at Ayacata before riding the last stretch to the top of Pico de las Nieves.
Like many rides on mountainous islands, once you reach the top — it is usually all downhill back to the coast!
Our final destination is the port of Agaete, where we will take the ferry to Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Climbs: Paso de Tauro, Pico de las Nieves

From our comfortable hotel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, it is a long 48km climb up to the Teide Astronomical Observatory at 2,300m high.

After the summit, we will descend towards Puerto de la Cruz and visit the fabulous gardens at La Orotava.
We will return by van back to Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Today, most of our ride will be on the TF-28 road, one of the most scenic routes on the island.
This amazing road goes parallel to the highway along the coast, we are riding from north to south.

Our last ride in Tenerife will take us to the beautiful town of Masca.
