Discover the Best of the Canary Islands with SFIDA Cycling
Join SFIDA Cycling for an unforgettable riding adventure in the Canary Islands.
The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago off the north-west coast of Africa, made up of seven spectacular islands. Renowned for their year-round riding conditions, they offer some of Europe’s most rewarding cycling routes.
On this trip, we’ll focus on two of the very best cycling destinations in the archipelago: Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
Ride Highlights
Gran Canaria
Our journey begins in Gran Canaria, where we’ll take on the climb to Pico de las Nieves, the highest point on the island accessible by bike at nearly 2,000 metres. With our hotel located close to sea level, the ascent promises a truly dramatic experience.
Gran Canaria also offers a wealth of other memorable rides, including scenic mountain roads and legendary climbs such as Valle de las Lágrimas (the “Valley of Tears”), one of the island’s most iconic routes.
After four days on Gran Canaria, we’ll travel by ferry to Tenerife, another world-class destination for road cycling.
Tenerife
Tenerife is home to one of the most famous climbs in cycling: the ascent towards Mount Teide. Rising above 2,000 metres, this training ground attracts many professional riders during the winter months.
But Tenerife has much more to offer than Teide alone. During our three days on the island, we’ll guide you along a selection of spectacular roads and unforgettable landscapes.
March is an ideal time to visit, with pleasant temperatures and excellent riding conditions. Join us for an exceptional cycling experience in the Canary Islands.

Itinerary
After meeting the SFIDA Cycling team at Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), we’ll transfer to our hotel in Mogán.
On arrival, we’ll check in, get our bikes ready, and enjoy lunch before the afternoon ride.
In the afternoon, we’ll head out for a scenic coastal ride to Maspalomas before climbing to Ayagaures.
It’s the perfect introduction to riding in Gran Canaria.
Ride route: Day 1 route
Distance and elevation: 63 km | 1,250 m climbing.
Hotel: Cordial Mogán Playa
Day 2 is likely to be the most demanding ride of the trip, and one of the most spectacular.
The Valley of Tears begins in Aldea de San Nicolás, a remote and dramatic corner of Gran Canaria known for its rugged beauty and challenging terrain.
After the climb, we’ll reach Ayacata for lunch before descending back to the hotel via Paso Tauro.
Ride route: Day 2 route
Distance and elevation: 96 km | 2,730 m climbing.
Hotel: Cordial Mogán Playa
Pico de las Nieves is the highest point in Gran Canaria accessible by road bike, making it one of the island’s signature climbs.
Today, we’ll check out of our hotel in Mogán before taking on this stunning 47 km ascent. After reaching the summit, we’ll enjoy an epic descent to the port of Agaete.
In Agaete, we’ll finish the ride and aboard the ferry to Tenerife, where the second half of our trip begins.
Ride route: Day 3 route
Distance and elevation: 97 km | 2,825 m climbing
Hotel: NH Tenerife
Our first ride in Tenerife takes us up the beautiful Puerto de Izana, one of the island’s standout high-altitude climbs.
We’ll begin with a short transfer from Santa Cruz de Tenerife before starting the ascent to 2,265 metres.
After reaching the summit, we’ll descend to La Orotava, where the ride finishes.
Set in a lush green valley in northern Tenerife, La Orotava is known for its rich architectural heritage and colonial charm. Its cobbled streets, traditional houses with carved wooden balconies, and historic gardens offer a memorable glimpse into the history of the Canary Islands.
After visiting La Orotava, we will transfer back to our hotel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Ride route: Day 4 route
Distance and elevation: 67 km | 1,870 m climbing.
Hotel: NH Tenerife
Today’s ride follows the beautiful TF-28, a winding road that runs from the north to the south of Tenerife.
Along the way, we’ll enjoy sweeping coastal views and pass through a series of picturesque towns and landmarks.
The route leads us to our hotel in Playa de las Américas, on Tenerife’s southern coast, where we’ll spend the final three nights of the trip.
Ride route: Day 5 route
Distance and elevation: 92 km | 1,510 m climbing.
One of Tenerife’s greatest cycling highlights is the climb to Teide, the island’s iconic volcano.
Several routes lead to the summit, and the mountain is a well-known training ground for professional riders during altitude camps.
Our route takes us up from the Arona side before descending to Guía de Isora, making the most of this outstanding side of the climb from Playa de las Américas.
To avoid heavy traffic on the main roads, we’ll use short transfers at both the start and end of the day. Once on route, the roads are generally quiet.
Ride route: Day 6 route
Distance and elevation: 84 km | 2,360 m climbing.
Our final ride is shorter than the previous days, but no less demanding, with a punchy route through some of Tenerife’s most dramatic scenery.
We’ll start in Santiago del Teide and finish in Puerto de Santiago.
From Santiago del Teide, we’ll ride towards the coast via El Tanque and La Cruces. Once at sea level, we’ll follow the shoreline to Buenavista del Norte.
From Buenavista, the road climbs into Masca Valley via the impressive Degollada del Cherfe, one of the most spectacular roads in Tenerife.
After returning to Santiago del Teide, we’ll descend to Puerto de Santiago, where the ride concludes.
The highlight here is the view over the Acantilados de Los Gigantes, one of Tenerife’s most striking natural landmarks.
It’s a fitting finale to another memorable SFIDA Cycling trip.
Ride route: Day 7 route
Distance and elevation: 66 km | 1,625 m climbing.
After breakfast, we’ll transfer to Tenerife South Airport (TFS).
We expect to arrive by 10:30 am.
Please let us know if you require alternative transfer arrangements.
