Main Information
CLIMB HIGHER WITH US IN TAIWAN
Taiwan is one of the most amazing countries to ride a bike. With the help of our local friends, we have made some changes and added some great climbs besides Wuling. This is a great trip.
Discover your limits and join us for a singular challenge: The SFIDA Taiwan will take you up to Mount Wuling, 3,275m high! But this is only part of the great riding we will do…
Starting with a couple of amazing rides in the Yangmishan National Park north of Taipei, you will be surprised at how mountainous it can get so close to a big city. We will do the palm ride, a must on your Strava profile!
Later we will ride to Hualien in a very “interesting” way, including a couple of days exploring the Taipinghshan National Park. These roads are very scenic and full of switchbacks.
To end this epic trip, we will climb Wuling, the longest and highest climb in the country, better known as KOM Taiwan.
As always, we will have great accommodation with an Asian touch at the end of the day. We have redesigned this trip, now we are spending a couple of nights at the first two hotels.
Tony and his Taiwanese crew will fully support this trip. All the meals are included, and we will enjoy some amazing food. Discover why the locals are crazy about what they eat… and find out why Taiwan is your next cycling destination—a gem to discover.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Adapting to the changes in international travel after the COVID-19 pandemic, we are adjusting our cancellation policy accordingly as follows:
120 days before the trip starts – the return of your deposit minus any expenses that we may not be able to reimburse.
90 days before the trip starts – partial refund of the amount of the trip less the 300 Euros cancellation fee, plus any amount that we can’t recover from Hotels, and other costs that we may have already incurred in the trip preparation.
No amount will be refunded less than 60 days before the trip starts. We will, however, try to credit as much as possible towards a future trip. This depends on the amount that we can get back from the hotels and other costs that we have already incurred in the trip preparation.
We highly recommend to contract travel insurance as soon you pay the deposit and buy your international flights.
Make sure your travel insurance covers:
- Refund the amounts paid if you need to cancel for any reason.
- Covers the cost of possible damages to your rental bike. Check our T&C for this.
For these reasons, we won’t be holding any spots until the full deposit has been paid.
Hotels are now more strict with how many rooms they are willing to have on hold for groups, so until deposit payments are made we won’t be able to confirm your spot.
Itinerary
Welcome to Taiwan, we will meet you at the designated hotel around noon. After a debrief on our trip, we will have lunch and build up the bikes
We will do a short ride around Yangmishan to check our bikes and legs.
In the evening we will enjoy dinner at one of the great night markets in Taipei, another great experience.
Day 1
26km / 905m
HOTEL: Hotel Double One Taipei.
It is not a joke! in the north of Taipei, you can do a ride with the palm shape that covers most of the great riding in the Yangmishan N.P.
As suggested by our local friends we will ride anti-clockwise, alternating climbing with short moments along the coast. We will stop for coffee and local food during our ride, this is a great part of the experience when riding in Taiwan!
For dinner tonight we will head to a traditional dim-sum restaurant where we will try a good number of local delicacies.
Day 2
123km / 2,900m.
CLIMBS: Multiple climbs in Yangmishan N.P
HOTEL: Hotel Double One Taipei.
We have a short transfer out of Taipei to Guang Ming Temple where we will start our ride today.
It is amazing how quickly you get from urban areas to rural and mountainous roads in Taiwan. Today’s ride will take us into Taipingshan National Park. But to get there we will have some great climbing on very sinuous roads.
Our riding for the next three days goes through central Taiwan, a very mountainous part of a very mountainous country!
We will reach our hotel in Qilan and stay for two nights there, this will give us time to explore this beautiful National Park.
Day 3
106km / 3,000m
CLIMBS: Multiple climbs on our way to Taipingshan N.P.
HOTEL: Qilan Resort
Staying two nights in the same place gives us the opportunity to explore the area we visit in more depth. Definitely, Taipingshan N.P deserves our extra day, but of course, to enjoy the best of this region “we must” climb!
We can assure you that the climb up to Cuifenghu, 42km long with 1,800m of vertical climbing and close to 40 switchbacks, will be fantastic!
Once back at our hotel, time to relax before enjoying a great dinner. Time to carb up for tomorrow.
Day 4
84km / 2,000m
CLIMB: Taipingshan climb.
HOTEL: Qilan Resort
Today we will be riding in central Taiwan, this is a very remote part of the country and well worth visiting.
The climbing today could be considered Wuling's third side, this is a beautiful road to Lishan via Yilan County.
Lishan is 2,000m high, so it will be great to spend the night at our cosy hotel in town.
Day 5
86km / 2,700m
CLIMB: Wuling the third side.
HOTEL: Swallow Castle Hotel.
From Lishan is a steady climb to the Hehuanshan tunnel. This spot marks the point where the two sides of Wuling become one.
Today, instead of continuing up Wuling, we will descend to Liwu. This is an epic and memorable ride, mostly downhill after we get through the tunnel.
DAY 6
108km / 900m.
HOTEL: The Moment Hualien Hotel.
The big day! Today we will follow the route that is becoming popular thanks to the KOM Taiwan event.
Starting at sea level, the first section of the ride goes through the Taroko gorges, views are amazing in any direction you look. In total, this climb is around 84 kilometres long.
Around km 21 we find the Tianxiang recreation area, this marks the start of a more demanding section of the climb with 6-8% parts.
The landscape and views continue to change until the last 10km when we find the steepest ramps of the climb, 15-20% of segments can be painful at this stage.
At one point you can see the summit, and you will reach it after passing the Hehuanshan lookout, now we are getting close to the top.
Arriving at the top of Mt.Wuling is an amazing achievement.
After enjoying the moment, we will descend as far as Puli. This will be the end of our riding.
We think that driving back to Taipei and spending the last night in this amazing city, is the best way to finish this amazing trip.
Day 7
142km / 3,600m
CLIMBS: Mount Wuling from Liwu 3,275m.
HOTEL: Palais de Chine Hotel Taipei.
After breakfast, end of the trip.
